The Gazetteer of Ancient Arabia is a thesaurus of the ancient places of the Arabian Peninsula.
It focuses on geographic entities of pre-Islamic Arabia with at least a name attested in primary or in secondary sources. It allows for the identification, description and possibly location, of features of the natural as well as the anthropic landscape. Among these, settlements, but also individual isolated remains, such as walls, hydraulic structures, sanctuaries and temples, necropolises and tombs, can be explored. Moreover, political, social and cultural entities with relations with the territory, such as kingdoms and tribes, are also considered.
As a thesaurus, the Gazetteer also details semantic and spatial relations between the abovementioned entities, in order to link archives of digitized texts and archaeological datasets, and therefore support the reconstruction of past geography - Rights
