- The progress of ICT in the last decades and the more recent affirmation of the web 4.0 have strongly influenced the modalities of access to goods and services also thanks to the availability of an ever greater amount of data, the so-called Big Data, and to the growing development new broadband networks, featuring all sectors of society and the economy. These data are presented with a considerable variety of formats; endowed with extreme volatility, they come from different sources and can be quickly conveyed. Big Data freely and voluntarily produced by different people who are not usually specialist in cartography, and shared in a geolocated mode through online platforms, actively contribute to build digital narratives of the territories, with a massive production of maps and other representations which, enriched of apps and connections to specific itineraries can contribute to enhance tourist development processes. The aim of this work is to highlight the ways in which the products of this "new cartography" can participate in the promotion of tourist destinations and represent an information heritage from which to derive the Big Data useful to businesses and decision makers for tourism planning and territorial marketing strategies.
